What am I Doing?

Saturday, December 12, 2009

I have become so overwhelmed by my credit card debt I can't hardly sleep at night. From years of education and years of unemployment my husband and I along with our two small children sit on a pile of credit card debt so high that you can't see the ground.

Financial advisors have told us to declare bankruptcy. Our family and friends keep telling us it won't be so bad just seven years bad credit what is that compared to this oppressive amount of debt?

Well, we can't do it. We just can't. We have spent the money on our credit cards in order to support ourselves the last fifteen years and it doesn't seem right to not pay it back.

Our interest rates are crap but not as bad as some we just can't seem to scrape enough money together each month to pay more than the minimums.

But, hey this is America right? Despite our terrible economy right now and that my husband is a full time teacher and I am a full time stay at home mother we must find a way to get out credit card debt under control!

I was trained as a lawyer and can't stomach the idea of going back into the field and my husband's doctorate in genetics, although quite impressive, cost more than his community college position can pay.

There has to be some benefit to all of this education we went through! I have decided that with my expensive brain that there must be a way!

My idea is that by eliminating, re-organizing and selling the stuff we have on top of watching for the best deals and coupons to match, that I should be able to save enough and make enough to pay down our debt!

I won't give up! We have lived the American Dream and we beleive in it! Now it is time to utilize our enginuity and force that debt into submission!

Whew. Wish me luck. All of this will be done under the nose of my husband but without his assistance or knowledge. Not that he isn't supportive but sometimes a woman has to do what she has to do, especially when it comes to money!

Wish me luck and watch my progression!
